Our Services
We provide structural design and analysis services for building structures or their components. The design includes the effects of wind or earthquake loads. Our projects include new houses, remodels and additions, small commercial buildings, foundations and seismic upgrade of buildings.
We provide consultation services including initial schematic designs through final construction documents and structural observation during construction. See Completed Projects
We Specialize in site development design including grading, drainage site improvements and utilities, from preliminary concept design through final construction. Projects include multi-family and single family residential, commercial office buildings and city parks. Our engineers have developed expertise in the design and construction of pervious concrete pavements and have incorporated this innovative material in numerous projects throughout northern California. See Completed Projects
The staff at Van Maren & Associates has in-depth knowledge and experience in the design and construction of pervious concrete. We understand the huge benefits of this alternative surface material. Successfully designed installations include, private residences, public parks, commercial parking areas and institutional sites, such as UC Berkeley Campus and Mills College. We have saved our clients thousands of dollars using pervious concrete instead of traditional concrete or asphalt surfacing by eliminating the need for extensive underground storm drain collection systems. Using pervious concrete is the preferred “Green” alternative because it reduces storm water runoff pollution and recharges the groundwater supply naturally.
Pervious Concrete Defined
Pervious Concrete is a permeable concrete pavement surface that temporarily stores surface runoff before infiltrating into the subsoil. Pervious concrete is a mixture of cement, coarse aggregates, water and admixtures. This results in a mixture that contains 15-25% void space within the concrete. Pervious concrete is ideally suited for use as parking area surfaces, pathways, sidewalks, low traffic roadways, gutter sections and shoulder areas. By allowing the storm water to flow through the surface and into the ground, the need for a separate storm drain system can be eliminated. This is an efficient method for recharging groundwater, reducing storm water runoff and meeting US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) storm water regulations.
